18th Annual Drum Circle Facilitator's Conference - Call for Session Proposals

IS NOW OPEN

I am excited to announce and invite each of you to submit a proposal to present at the 18th Annual Drum Circle Facilitators Guild Conference, February 24-26, 2023 at Ocean Creek Resort, Myrtle Beach, SC, USA. We welcome presenters for in-person and virtual.

For 2023 the conference will continue with our successful in-person format without simultaneous broadcast meaning no Virtual Attendees. In May or June (3-4 months) after the February conference DCFG will hold a 1-day Virtual conference.  The conference committee diligently researched the feasibility of providing simultaneous/virtual access to the conference and we are not able to do so for this year. However, the conference will be professionally recorded and videos will be made available 3-4 months after the conference. For those presenting, if you give permission, your session will be professionally recorded and edited and you will have access to your session to use as you see fit.

Our theme for 2023 is Center, Pulse, GROOVE! and came from conversations with, and about how, Drum Circle Facilitators responded to the Pandemic that left very little time for reflection and inner growth.  COVID continues to be part of our lives and the upheaval around the world is overwhelming. For both ourselves and those we serve, returning to the basics of Center, Pulse, GROOVE! is necessary for moving forward. There are many ways this theme can be interpreted and applied to Drum Circle Facilitators.

  • Center is about us, as individuals, creating space to become grounded and present in the moment. Center is also about our roles as Drum Circle Facilitators. We need to be “centered” before we can help our circles be centered. How do we help our circles to be centered; able to listen, able to hear, able to connect with music.
  • The Pulse is the life beat, the simple pulse that gets people going. What shape does that take? Is it simple, is it complex, what are your goals with your drum circle? How do you support the circle being centered or coming back to the center?
  • Then the GROOVE! We all know what that is and how it feels to be part of the GROOVE and to observe it happening. Watching drum circle participants start to let go and fully engage makes some of the most beautiful moments and music. Without Centering and discovering the Pulse, could the GROOVE happen? Well, yes, but it could fall apart just as easily, because it wasn’t centered.

We welcome all proposals for the Annual Conference and always ask that you consider how your topic compliments or relates to the theme of Center, Pulse, GROOVE!.  This theme can be interpreted in many ways and we, the Conference Committee look forward to reading your creative proposals.

We are here to help, reach out if you have any questions or need help with the application.  The Deadline for submission is: November 28th at 11:59 pm EST - USA (UTC -5) submit your proposal.

Looking forward to reading your conference proposals!
